The Threshold Centre

About

The Threshold Centre at Cole Street Farm, is a small cohousing community just outside Gillingham in North Dorset, established in 2009, welcoming up to 20 members of all ages (though there are currently no families with children and the average age is about 60!).  The site consists of fourteen dwellings, mostly barn conversions, seven of which are affordable rent or shared ownership with a local housing association; there is also a common farmhouse with 3 rooms for rent, plus shared facilities including meditation room, large kitchen, office, guest rooms, etc.   We try to be as sustainable as possible, with a biomass boiler which provides heating/hot water in all properties, a biodigester and rainwater collection. We have a large garden space between the houses plus a 1-acre community vegetable garden and orchard which includes 2 polytunnels, a labyrinth, and plenty of space for contemplation/wildlife.

We hold an open afternoon tea on the first Saturday of the month and and various day/weekend events eg. Gardening/Work days, Celtic festival celebrations etc.  Please see our website for more details of future dates.  If you are interested in coming to live here, you are welcome to visit, even if there are no immediate vacancies. For vacancies, please check our website.
