Sadly we have decided to dissolve London Older Lesbian Cohousing.
Despite our concentrated efforts over the last ten years, we have not been able to secure a solid commitment from a developer to work together to realise our plan for a lesbian centred London cohousing community.
As many of you know, we had the full support of the Greater London Authority’s Community Housing Hub, and a promise of GLA funding, and were working closely with L&Q, but sadly the project was rejected by the housing association’s top management at the last minute. Since that setback we have been working to find alternatives, but with no success.
Our energies and emotional resources are depleted and have decided to dissolve LOLC as an entity. We are grateful for institutional support from the GLA’s Community Housing Hub, OWCH, Women’s Pioneer Housing and architects Pollard Thomas Edwards, and for the individual contributions of friends and well-wishers.
We are working to make our organisational records available as a resource for future cohousers and researchers, these will be available at Bishopsgate Institute, and the website on WordPress.
