On Friday 24th June, Liverpool City Council’s cabinet approved a Community Asset Transfer Policy which included a commitment to develop an associated Community Led Housing Policy for the city. Local Community Led Housing Hub, Breaking Ground is thrilled to have been asked to co-design this new policy with the involvement of community led housing groups across the city.
Hats off to the innovative leadership shown by Mayor Joanne Anderson and Cabinet Member for Strategic Development and Housing, Cllr Sarah Doyle, for making this happen. This is a game changer for Liverpool and sets a new direction of travel in how communities can lead their own regeneration.
Community led approaches have long been in the DNA of how we do things in our region; yet many of our successful community based projects have emerged through processes of real struggle. These policy commitments demonstrate a transparent enabling approach by Liverpool City Council and we must applaud the opportunity this creates. Can we really start to imagine what a truly supportive policy environment might actually mean for our people and places?
