Dear Friends,
The Community Housing Fund, which was set to be axed by the government in 2022/23 may have a reprieve. We are urging supporters of cohousing (and community led housing more widely) to email their local MPs about urging the Rt Hon Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) to renew the CHF as a priority.
The CHF directly funds community groups across the country to get their housing plans to the planning permission stage. This pre-planning money is absolutely critical to getting schemes off the ground and it’s very difficult money to find elsewhere.
It should be an easy decision. We need affordable housing; we need to boost local communities and we know community led housing is value for money with a positive social impact. In bigger budgeting terms on housing, the amounts we are asking for are fairly small.
Tom Chance, of the Community Land Trust Network, makes the case very well in Inside Housing: https://t.co/LF2GUiCXKw
On a brighter note we are really looking forward to celebrating the progress of many cohousing groups this year at the AGM on 20th June – the details are in the link below…
