After five years of careful planning, Bridge Farm Cohousing Community is delighted to share that we completed the purchase of Bridge Farm and one of the agricultural fields in Drayton, near South Petherton, Somerset, in January 2026. This marks the beginning of a long held vision to create a thriving community rooted in cooperation, stewardship of the land and shared responsibility for place. We have adopted the Fully Mutual Housing Cooperative model as our legal entity and are using Sociocracy for our governance model.
We are having two Open Days – on Saturday 13 June and Sunday 14 June, with guided site tours, an opportunity to meet members of the community, see the architect plans and hear about our longer term vision for the farm. There are a few homes remaining for sale within the community, ranging from 1 to 3 bedroom homes. We are particularly interested in meeting people who feel drawn to this kind of collaborative living and who are able to contribute both financially and through time and participation in the life of the community. We currently have a stable membership of 6 households.
In February we planted the first 170 trees in our new orchard, an early step in nurturing the landscape that will grow with the community in the years ahead. Since taking ownership, members have also been busy caring for the site. We have begun clearing rubble and overgrown vegetation around the farm and our common house, gradually restoring the land and buildings. Ecologists have visited the site to advise us on how best to care for the local habitats, wildlife and biodiversity and we have been encouraged by the positive feedback we are receiving.
Construction of the homes is planned to begin this year with some infrastructure works happening in the spring.
