We moved into Berry Park in June 2021. We are an intergenerational community – creating a ‘village’ who support each other at different stages of our lives. We are creating a beautiful space we call Home, where our community can relax, play, work & thrive. We are using organic, no-dig methods to grow food and create a forest garden.
Members purchase equity in the project and we occasionally have a space available for a temporary rental/winter let. Berry Park and the adjacent cottages were divided up into holiday apartments, which now have planning permission for residential use. Members have their own self-contained accommodation and share the garden and a communal living room which is used for meetings, meals, playing and partying.
In the garden there is a forest school area and children’s playing field, a vegetable garden under development including no-dig veg beds, a polytunnel and greenhouse, soft fruit area and a small orchard. We have started planting trees as part of the planned Forest Garden, which we envisage forming a seamless link for wildlife to the adjacent Marsland Nature Reserve. We are creating a large wildlife pond to increase biodiversity. We have 2 wells on site one of which is supplied by a natural spring. A lawned area at the back of the house, with stunning views across the valley towards Cornwall, is where members gather to have a drink, play games or just to sit and soak up the peace and quiet. It is the venue for informal events including live music performances. We also hold Social/music events in our community living room in the winter months.
