Bridport Cohousing Press Release – January 2013
Bridport Cohousing is a group of local people working together to create more affordable, sustainable homes in Bridport for local people. The plans to build 30 homes with community facilities on the field just West of Bridport Hospital were unveiled to the local residents in Allington and Bridport on 18 & 19 January. Over 80 people viewed and commented on the plans.
“It was great that so many people took the trouble to comment on our plans” said Monica King, Chair of Bridport Cohousing. “In the morning in Bucky Doo Square we had lots of comments and questions and there was always a small knot of people, in spite of it being so cold our biros stopped working! And in the evening at Cherry Tree there was a warm buzz with everyone really engaged in discussing our plans.”
Charles Couzens, one of the group’s advisors, said, “We looked at several possible sites before the residents group chose this one. Our reasons for proposing this site include offering shared facilities which can benefit the whole Allington community, enough space to grow food on site, easy access by bus, foot and bike from central Bridport, and a price for the land which means that all the homes will be affordable”.
