Introducing Cannock Mill Cohousing

We used to be ‘LoCo’ (London Countryside Cohousing) but now we have our wonderful site in Colchester we have become the Cannock Millers.  The centrepiece of our scheme will be the grade 2 listed Mill which is our common house – we are already using it for meetings, which can move outside on a sunny day.

CoHUT is a working group of five people, and so far we have developed a group vision, a mission statement, constitution and decision making process. We are looking to recruit several new core members, with the aim of making the group more robust for the next stages of development.

We've done it!  We made the deadline for submission of our second-stage bid to buy 16 - 17 acres of land in Oxford.  The land, owned by Birmingham City Council, went on the market earlier this year, with a two-stage bidding process.  Our first bid went in in May and we were shortlisted with two other organisations for the second-stage bidding process.

As far as I know, Trelay is the only cohousing group in the UK that started by buying a farm and making use of a farmhouse and set of holiday cottages to create a cohousing community.

In August we organised a two day visioning workshop,.On one of the hottest weekends of the year it tested our commitment to the full. Like most groups in their development phase our regular monthly meetings are pretty much filled up with business matters, as well as welcoming and informing new people seeking to know if our cohousing scheme is right for them.
