The Open House Project Sheffield
We are a group of people looking for a better way to live. The aim of the project is to create an opportunity for families to come together and live in a self-supportive co-housing community. We have purchased the buildings at Barnes Hall Farm, Burncross, (northwest of) Sheffield, S35 1RD and have planning permission to convert the farm buildings into a series of 7 dwellings, communal facilities and shared external spaces. Phase 1 of the building work is starting imminently.
Our diverse group currently consists of adults and children of all ages. We have 3 units of different sizes available and we are looking for people who share our aims below and are interested in living at Barnes Hall Farm.
Mission Statement We are a group of people working within a historical site to establish individual homes and shared spaces for people sympathetic to our ideals of mutual support and respect – for each other, our buildings, and the environment.
Aims and Objectives
- to provide a range of homes, for families or individuals, that are suitable and comfortable for people at any stage in their life.
- to facilitate mutual support and co-operation through shared activities, consensual decision making, and thoughtful design.
- to be sensitive to our environmental impact, putting our emphasis on sustainability and self sufficiency.
- to develop useful and rewarding links with the wider community.
We would like to hear from people with relevant skills who would like to contribute to the realisation of the project. If you would like to be updated on the group’s development and may want to be involved in events from time-to-time, we will send out an occasional newsletter.
