Older Womens Cohousing (OWCH)

Primary tabs

We are a community in which members’ skills and talents are valued, shared and developed. Our members have to be capable of independent living and both enjoy privacy and the company of like-minded women. We welcome women of any culture or background who are prepared to commit to the group’s values and to be active participants in our life together.

Our values are: acceptance and respect for diversity; care and support for each other; providing a balance between privacy and community; countering ageist stereotypes; co-operating and sharing responsibility; maintaining a structure without hierarchy; caring for the environment; being part of the wider community.

Our OWCH complex offers 17 flats for sale on 250-year leases and 8 for social rent. There are currently no vacancies, but this could change in the future and we are keen to build up a small circle of women who are interested in cohousing and would like to keep in touch with our group. This process will re-commence later in Spring 2017. This circle will then be the first to be informed should a vacancy occur.

OWCH starts on site

Rachel Bollen

After 16 years of set-backs and delays, the OWCH site was declared open by Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet.

On the perfect, sunny morning of 27th February 2015, after 16 years of searching, hoping and planning, finally the great day came when the OWCH site in Barnet, North London, (the UK’s first ground-breaking purpose-built, senior cohousing scheme exclusively for older women) was cleared of existing buildings and was declared open for building to start.
