We are a small forming group, looking for some more motivated people to join us.

So far we agree that an inter-generational (all ages) is what we all want and we have people aged between 5 and 60 involved at the moment.

We only started in early 2016 but we have already found a land in West Malling (in the Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks triangle off the M20) where an architect has helped us establish some of the obstacles we face pursuing this, but we have not given up!

We've had also early discussions with an inspiring landowner on the Kent Coast who is interested in cohousing for land they own.

We are very keen on incorporating a makerspace/studio/coworking space and some of us are already involved in community groups and would like to make some of our shared spaces available to the wider community in which we eventually live.

Our situations include 'young thinking' baby boomers who are thinking about how they live in the future as they age, and working lone parents who see the benefit of sharing life more, plus we have two special needs ladies on the periphery who are interested in how living within the confines of a cohousing community, with their own specialised care, could be a solution to living independently as part of a supportive group.

We are very dependent on finding land and that will determine the size but we plan would aim for 15 - 33 homes which could be houses or apartments, both privately owned and rented.

We would like to include food growing, a tree house (for adults as well as children), a fire pit and play areas in general.

Our journey so far has been very up and down but it's been exciting and and our connections are growing all the time. We hope we are not doing this for years as we want to move as soon as possible. We'd love to chat or meet if you are interested to know more.

The focus is on finding a site and raising money. The group will have to work up a business plan and may have commissioned some feasibility studies. They may have their first experience of small scale contracts with professionals. This stage ends when a ‘definite’ site is found. There may be several iterations of this stage.
We want to create a 'people first' community where 'social capital' is more important than profit and where the neighbour is put back into neighbourhood.
