CoHousing Bristol is a small cohousing project in South Bristol within easy reach of the city centre. In 2010 we bought a property consisting of a stone-built farmhouse and just under an acre of land. It was in need of extensive renovation, and we moved in in 2011 after working on it for a year.
We are currently engaged in the process of developing into a fully-fledged cohousing project, providing socially, environmentally and financially sustainable housing and shared community facilities for our nine members. In July 2015 we submitted a planning application to build nine housing units for sale to our members, and are currently in negotiation with Bristol City Council about this.
Our group includes eleven adults of ages between 18 and 68, most of whom live onsite in the farmhouse.
CoHousing Bristol is a company limited by guarantee and was originally set up in 2001. The group bid for various properties or parcels of land unsuccessfully before acquiring our current site.
We don’t have the capacity to take on new members at the moment, but may wish to do so in future as our project progresses, so if you would be interested in future vacancies, please do get in touch.
This is the main project planning stage: acquiring the site, gaining planning permission, finding funding and tendering with a contractor. This stage concludes with signing off funding and moving on-site to start the construction works.
